Humira Sounding Promising As Supplementary To Remicade
Having a hard time taking Remicade?
Remicade is actually known to have patients build allergic reactions to if they take it enough or if they take a long break between shots. My doctors give me a lot of Prednisone, benadryl and tylenol before my shot to avoid reactions (I had one before).
Although I am now able to take Remicade without a problem (after getting drugged up). A recent study showed that there may be a good alternative to the life-interferring 1 long infusion every 6-8 weeks (a.k.a Remicade).
Humira, which is a 1 time a week subcutaneous, self-delivered, shot seems to be showing very promising results in recent studies against placebos.
A recently article in SpiritIndia talks more about this.
The data is being presented simultaneously at the American College of Gastroenterology (ACG) annual meeting in Las Vegas and the United European Gastroenterology Week (UEGW) in Berlin.

I was taking Humira shots IM weekly for roughly three years for arthritis (actually, spondylitis of IBD, a complication of my Crohn’s). My rheumatologist had always told me that it also benefited my Crohn’s disease, as well as my arthitis.
It was only when a change of insurance plans disallowed the continuance of the Humira injections some months ago that I experienced not only worsening of my arthritis symptoms, but also a MASSIVE deterioration in my Crohn’s disease. I have now come to believe that Humira may well have been the strongest drug in my arsenal against Crohn’s, and I am suffering badly without it. The bottom line is, I tend to give credence to these new studies regarding Humira and Crohn’s. (I was one of the unlucky folks who had a terrible reaction taking Remicaid, and was barred from receiving the drug henceforth.)
I’d be curious to know whether anyone else out there had similar experiences.
