Getting Rid of Prednisone “Fat”
“Moon Face” is a very common side-effect of taking prednisone. It basically refers to the “weight gain” a patient incurs while on Prednisone.
Most of this is just water retention. Your body retains more water while you’re on Prednisone so that is what creates the bloated body.
By the way, most have noticed that the increase in weight is not just in the face but through out the body (especially in lower abdomen as well).
I have now been off of prednisone for about a month and I am beginning to experience increased urination. What I’m also noticing is that every day more and more of that fat is dissapearing.
My guess is that the body is getting ready of the excess liquid now and is helping rid of the fat.
I had spoken to a dietician before and she told me that the best way to get rid of liquid is to actually drink more (ironic). Meaning, drink more water!
As always, this is just my personal experience, not medical advice. Please talk to your GI and dietician about how you can help reduce the negative side-effects of Prednisone.
** Most have said that they take 2-3 months from the last dosage of Prednisone to see the bulk of the side-effects to go away…
