New Crohn’s Treatment? CIMZIA(TM)
UCB announced the submission of a Marketing Authorisation Application (MAA) to the European Medicines Agency (EMEA) for the approval of CIMZIA(TM) for treatment of Crohn’s Disease patients.
“Data from [a detailed study] demonstrated that within six weeks of initiating CIMZIA(TM), 64.1 percent of patients (428 of 668) achieved a clinical response as defined by greater than or equal to 100 point reduction in the Crohn’s Disease Activity.”
From my initial study of it, CIMZIA(TM) seems to be another anti-TNF drug much like Remicade.
However, CIMZIA(TM) is a monthly “patient-friendly” sub-cutaneous shot rather than the long Remicade shots that make it necessary to be in an infusion center.

Another point that comes to mind is that Humira (a Rheumatoid Arthiritis drug) is also far along in the process of trying to get approval by the FDA. I wonder if these drugs are similar?
